About Paul 

Paul Hankins is the Founder, CEO and Broker of BrickWood Mortgage, Inc. A South Carolina native and proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, Paul began his mortgage career with a large national lender before founding BrickWood Mortgage in 2007 with a simple goal: provide clients with more options, better service and the personal attention of a local mortgage broker.

Mortgage Experience

With more than two decades of residential mortgage experience, Paul has helped clients through just about every type of lending scenario. Whether someone is buying their first home, refinancing, investing in real estate or needs a creative solution for a more complicated situation, Paul enjoys finding a way to make the numbers work. He believes a mortgage shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all, and having access to multiple lenders and loan programs allows him to find solutions tailored to each client’s needs.

Community Involvement

Paul’s experience in the mortgage industry extends beyond BrickWood. In 2025, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed him to serve on the South Carolina Council of Advisors on Consumer Credit. In that role, Paul brings the perspective of a working mortgage broker and small-business owner to discussions involving consumer credit and the financial services industry in South Carolina.

Even after more than 20 years in the mortgage business, Paul’s favorite part of the job hasn’t changed—working directly with people. He takes pride in being accessible to his clients, explaining their options in plain English and finding opportunities to save them money. Many of the people Paul works with today are repeat clients, referrals, or families he has helped through multiple stages of homeownership.

Personal Life

Paul lives in Garden City Beach with his wife, Kinsey, their son, Hutch, and their Miniature Dachshund, Braxton. When he’s not working on mortgages, you’ll usually find him spending time with his family, cheering on the Gamecocks, working on one of his many projects, or exploring the world through the adventurous eyes of his son.
